For as long as social media has been around, so has the debate about whether or not brands and businesses can actually make money in social media. A recent study from the IAB  (Internet Advertising Bureau) is potential proof that if brands can engage with customers in social channels, they have a very good chance of experiencing social success with increased branding, awareness, and sales.

If you are not yet convinced that your business or brand should be active on one or more social channels, take a look at the statistics that came from a recent study. You might soon be convinced to give at least one channel a try.

IAB Study details: over 4500 social media fans from brands like Heinz, Kettle and Twinnings were surveyed over a two month period. The survey was supplemented by 899 interviews.

  • 90 per cent of consumers would recommend a brand to others after interacting with the brand on social media.
  • Four out of five consumers would be more inclined to buy a brand more after being exposed to them on social media.
  • 83 per cent of those surveyed would be happy to try the product.

Each brand experienced uplift in sentiment ranging from 17% to 22%, translating to an estimate that for every £1 spent on social media as much as £3.34 could be generated.
