If you have to ask, then obviously, you don’t know “Who”. But, as most of your know, Doctor Who has become one of the most popular shows, not just in the UK, but worldwide thanks to BBC syndication. The followers are known as Whovians and they are beyond cult-like; Doctor Who is infinitely growing in popularity. So to pay homage to The Good Doctor, we are going to have a play-on “What Would Doctor Who Do if he were in business?”

  • Don’t be Afraid of Change. The Doctor is immortal and transcends time and space. Businesses can last through generations as well, but only if you embrace change, face it head on and know when it is time to regenerate. Do not get so attached to people or ideas that you lose sight of “the big picture”.
  • Learn From the Past. Doctor Who, the television show, is celebrating 50 years this year. The writers and producers definitely look to past lessons learned to see what works and what does not.
  • Listen to Your Fans. Whovians are passionate, just like the fans, followers and customers of a business can be passionate about your business if you take the time to listen to them and give them what they ask for.
  • Ask for Help. It is more than ok to ask for help. Even though Doctor Who is a time lord, capable of traveling through time and space and is immortal, yet he always travels with a companion that helps him. In your business, draw from consultants, experts, and employees for help achieving success.
  • Take Breaks. Make time for fish sticks and custard. Having or running your own business can become a bit of an obsession. If you do not take the time to take a break every now and again, you will get burnt out.
  • Adopt Your Own Unique Style. Your own style helps you stand out and establishes a brand. Whether that is wearing a hat that stands out, or going against the norm and insisting that bowties are cool, or wearing a garish rainbow scarf, embrace the style of your brand and really own it.
  • Have the Right Tools. It may not be as simple as only needing one Sonic Screwdriver, but business owners need all the right tools, whether they are the right staff, the right supplies, and the right online tools, like blogs, information, even promotional products!
  • Have Compassion. A business can seem uncaring; make sure that your business has a compassionate and understanding persona. Just because The Doctor is immortal, he still has so much compassion and caring for humans and your business should too. After all, it is the customers that drive the sales of your business.
  • Organize Your Priorities. Just like fans can’t spend all day watching the telly, you must prioritize your responsibilities for the business. Do not skip ahead! Going out of order will ruin everything and might show you spoilers!
  • There is No Right Answer for Everything. Just as you should not try to find Doctor Who answers in Wikipedia, there is not book or source that will have all the answers for your business. Each business is different and will call for different things at different times.
