The research was gathered in a survey of 1,495 consumers by www.burstmedia.com.

According to the survey, 49 percent of women visit social media sites “a few times a day,” compared to 34 percent of men. Prominently mentioned sites included Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, and Google +.

Nearly half of people display their loyalty to name brands online. Among trendsetting groups, 58 percent of all Mothers and 58 percent of women 18-34 show their brand loyalty online.

Two-thirds say a promotional or brand name mention by a blogger influences a purchasing decision. This is especially true for 18-34 year olds, and Moms.

Clicking an “I want it” button on a socially enabled ad is the social media equivalent of the cherished impulse buy. One in four respondents is likely to follow a brand because of an social media enabled ad.

The survey demonstrates that social media is likely to be an increasingly important part of marketing strategy, particularly if the product has appeal to young women or Moms.
