Printed Hats - The Perfect Fit for Your Brand

Some, including baseball fans and dads in their 50s, like baseball caps. Others, like Reddit users and rotund beta males, prefer fedoras. And to some, a simple visor cap is enough. Though, there are still those who love wide-brimmed elegant options that cast a long shadow. No matter the shape, no matter the size, a hat is always a welcome sight.

Now, using branded hats as promotional items is not exactly new. In fact, companies have been doing it for quite a long time. But there is a bit of an issue if we want to join millions of CEOs who opt for branded hats. Namely, there’s always the question of whether the hat will fit the buyer or not.

Most hats are sold as one-size-fits-all products, and some of them are indeed like that. But quite a few hats on the market don’t really fit all head shapes and sizes. In this article, we will go over how prospective brand CEOs can research hat sizes and diversify their portfolio regarding new and exciting promotional clothing items.

Measure for Measure

As stated earlier, most hats genuinely fit everyone. What’s more, baseball caps have a closure in the back, which we can set up based on how wide or thin our head is. On the other hand, it’s a good idea to have some size variety, in case clients require a specific kind of hat. So, how do we know which sizes to choose from?

Well, luckily, we can always measure the circumference of our head and decide on just how wide of a hat we need. The steps are as follows:

  • Measuring tools; we will need either a lengthy, thin piece of string or a durable, flexible tape measure. We recommend buying some tape measures at the local sewing goods store.
  • Placing the tape measure/string; we need to have it around our head, at ⅛ of an inch above the ear and across the middle of our forehead. We have to hold the string or the tape measure tight, but not to the point where it hurts us. The amount of force we apply should equal the amount of force we want our hat to exert when we put it on.
  • We have to hold onto the endpoint of the string. That spot will be where we actually mark the measuring tool for our hat buying purposes. From there on, we simply use a ruler to measure the proper fitting size and go shopping according to that.
  • If, on the other hand, we’re using a tape measure, we merely use the numbers that we take and correspond them to a size chart.

Checking Out Hat Sizes in Stores

Of course, if the measuring bit isn’t something we want to do, we can always try the poor man’s marketing research method. In other words, we can just walk over to a local mall, enter a clothing store, try on a few hats and see which ones fit.

Once we find one that fits our particular head shape, we can simply take a look at the label and see what size it is. That size can be a rough estimate. And the reason we say ‘rough estimate’ is because even the set size charts aren’t always the same.

For instance, in the UK, a typical S, M, or L size chart for hats goes a bit like this:

  • A small hat would be between 20 and 22 inches in diameter
  • A medium hat would be a little over 22 inches in diameter
  • Finally, a large hat would be almost anything above 23 inches in diameter.

Naturally, we did not include the extra small or extra large sizes, nor some of the extremes such as XXXS or XXXL.

The reason we’ve listed these estimates is simple. What Brits consider medium will not be the same size that the Chinese or Malaysians consider medium. And the vast majority of hat suppliers come from the Pacific East Asian countries. So, when we’re placing that bulk order, we must explore the Asian hat market and determine what would be a good snug fit for our European or American employees and clients.

The Perfect Fit

Getting hats as promo material is an excellent idea, but it does take a bit of hard work and research. We hope that this article will serve as a good jumping-off point for the entrepreneurs and CEOs out there eager to explore innovative branded merch options.
