This week, one of the most popular conference and trade shows in the world is going on in Las Vegas in the US. Each year, CES, which stands for Consumer Electronics Show, features the latest, greatest, and hottest from the world of technology. The New Year brings new gadgets, apps, toys, games, and much more. There is a conference portion of the show with speakers, seminars, and product press events. This year there are over 3,000 exhibitors. Then there is a trade show floor where attendees can purchase and see demos of the new electronic products. We have compiled a list of 4 things to watch to come out of CES 2014:

  1. More wearable technology. Making the way for augmented reality technology, which is not quite mainstream yet are other wearable technology devices. Many of these devices are used for fitness, such as steps walked or monitoring heart rate and other vitals during exercising. The trend this year will be for these devices to get smarter and more interactive. Some examples are socks with a band in them that monitors not just your speed and how far you have run, but gives data and feedback on how your foot is hitting the ground. Another new gadget is a connected toothbrush, which sends data to the application on your device to instruct you on how to better brush your teeth.
  2. Connecting Everything to the Internet. Smart home solutions that are connected to your mobile devices will get start to go mainstream this year. Technology like this means monitoring your home while you are away from your smartphone or tablet. Controlling temperature, lights, locks, and more. Not just our homes are getting connected to the internet this year; more and more devices will connect online, to our computers, or to the cloud. Even the wearable gadgets in the first example here will mostly be connected as well. Even if your entire home is not internet connected yet, other things like appliances and televisions can be.
  3. New Tablets and Smartphones. Sony is making a splash with new televisions, phones, and tablets in this category. The devices will get smarter, smaller, and cheaper. PCWorld highlights the top Chromebooks, Tablets, and PCs they expect to see at CES. Speaking of small, smart watches are also expected to be a popular new topic of interest this year.
  4. Innovations in Televisions. 3D Televisions made a splash at last year’s CES, this year, the TVs are getting bigger, brighter, clearer, and better. There is a new innovation from Sony, they are unveiling their “bendable” television screens at this year’s convention.
